FAQs

General

Q: How often should I visit the dentist?
The Australian Dental Association® (ADA) recommends regular dental visits for teeth cleaning, X-rays and to catch any emerging dental problems before they become more serious or expensive. While every patient is different and a history of decay or oral health disease may require you to come more frequently, an average of every 6 or 12 months is often recommended.
Q: What will happen at my first dental visit?
When you arrive for your first dental visit at our Footscray dental clinic, you’ll be welcomed by our friendly team of receptionist and dental assistant, who will help get you settled in. After some quick paperwork, we'll have a chat about your medical and dental history to ensure we understand your specific needs.

Our dentists will take some photos of your teeth and, if needed, X-rays to get a clear picture of your oral health. Then, we'll do a thorough check of your teeth and gums. After the exam, we’ll explain everything and suggest any treatments or care you might need. Learn more about our dental check up and clean service.

Q: What is a dental emergency? What should I do if I have a dental emergency?
Dental emergencies can range from a simple lost filling causing minor discomfort to a heavily infected tooth resulting in severe facial swelling and pain. It is important to understand that most dental issues including trauma, pain, swelling and bleeding will generally not resolve on their own, and should be managed as soon as possible as these can quickly develop into more serious complications. Common emergencies include knocked-out teeth, severe toothaches, broken teeth, or injuries to the mouth.

We always aim to have time slots available throughout the day for emergencies, so if you are experiencing any pain or discomfort, please give us a call right away.

Dental Veneers

Q: What are dental veneers, and what are they used for?
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth-coloured porcelain that cover the front surface of teeth. They are used to improve the appearance of teeth by addressing issues such as discoloration, chips, gaps, misalignment, or irregular shapes. Veneers can also help in restoring a uniform and aesthetically pleasing smile.
Q: How long do dental veneers typically last?
The lifespan of dental veneers varies depending on the material used and individual care. Porcelain veneers generally last between 10 to 15 years. Proper oral hygiene, avoiding/treating habits like grinding teeth, and regular dental check-ups can help extend the life of veneers.
Q: Does getting veneers require the removal of natural tooth structure?
Yes, some removal of tooth structure is usually necessary for veneers, particularly with porcelain veneers. The dentist typically removes a small amount of enamel from the front surface of the teeth to ensure a proper fit and bonding of the veneers.
Q: Can veneers fix crooked or misaligned teeth?
Veneers can help mask the appearance of crooked or misaligned teeth, giving the illusion of a straighter smile. However, they do not correct the underlying alignment issues. For significant misalignment, orthodontic treatments like braces or clear aligners might be recommended. Veneers are typically used for cosmetic improvement rather than structural correction.
Q: What is the procedure for getting veneers?
The veneer procedure typically involves three steps: consultation and planning, preparation, and bonding. During the first visit, the dentist evaluates your teeth and discusses your goals. In the next appointment, a small amount of enamel is removed to make room for the veneers and an impression is taken to be sent to the lab. Finally, the custom veneers are bonded to your teeth.

Invisalign®

Q: How long does Invisalign® treatment take?
The duration of Invisalign® treatment can vary depending on the complexity of your case. On average, treatment ranges from 6 months to 3 years. During your initial consultation, we will give you a more accurate estimate based on your unique smile goals and the alignment of your teeth.
Q: How often do I need to wear the aligners?
You will need to wear your aligners for at least 22 hours each day in order for them to be fully effective. This means, you should only take out your aligners when you are eating and when you are brushing and flossing your teeth.

For hygiene reasons, we encourage patients to brush and rinse their aligners at least twice a day with a normal toothbrush. This will also help prevent your aligners from staining and turning yellow, which can occur over time due to certain habits such as drinking coffee or wine regularly and smoking.
Q: How much does Invisalign® cost?
As a guide, Invisalign® treatment typically ranges from $3,500 - $7,500 and is dependent on the treatment type and time required, as well as the complexity of the case and your smile goals. On your initial consultation, we will give you a clear cost estimate based on your specific needs and offer flexible payment options to help make your smile goals affordable.
Q: How do I get started with Invisalign®?
If you would like to speak with one of our dentists to learn more about Invisalign, we are currently offering a Complimentary Express Consultation for new patients.

During this free 20-minute appointment, the dentist will take the time to understand your key areas of concern and complete an assessment of your teeth, gums and bite. Our dentists will then walk you through the orthodontic options best suited for your needs and help answer any questions you may have.

To book your appointment, simply fill out our inquiry form or contact us at 9689 4477.
Q: Are there other alternatives to Invisalign®?
Yes! In addition to Invisalign®, we also offer in-house clear aligners as an effective and afforadable alternative.

Our in-house aligners are custom-made on-site by our experienced team of dental professionals, allowing us to closely monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed. They are often more affordable than Invisalign® and, in many cases, can lead to faster results because we have full control over the production and adjustment process.

For more severe cases, we may recommend traditional braces as a more appropriate treatment to achieve the best outcome. Whether it’s traditional braces, Invisalign®, or in-house aligners, we’ll guide you through the decision-making process to find the treatment that best suits your needs.
