Getting braces or clear aligners is a big decision, and we know it can feel overwhelming. That’s why we sat down with Dr. Yin to answer some of the most common questions our patients have about orthodontics!

1. What is orthodontics?

“Orthodontics is the field of dentistry focused on diagnosing, preventing, and treating dental and facial irregularities, such as misaligned teeth and jaws. Correcting these issues can improve dental health as well as overall appearance.”

2. What are the different types of orthodontic treatments?

“Orthodontic options include traditional metal braces, clear aligners and functional appliances such as expanders. The final choice of orthodontic treatment will depend on the specific orthodontic requirements and patient preference.”

3. Am I too young or too old to start orthodontic treatment?

“It is never too late to seek an orthodontic assessment, even for adults. For children, treatment can be started at various stages of dental development. Early evaluation (around 7 years old) can help determine the best timing based on a child's specific needs.”

4. How long does orthodontic treatment typically take?

“The duration of orthodontic treatment varies depending on the complexity of the case.
Certain simple cases can be treated in under 3 months, while complex cases could take several years. On average, treatment would take approximately 12-24 months.“

5. Which orthodontic treatment option is best for me?

“The best orthodontic option depends on several factors – including severity of misalignment, aesthetic concerns and budget.

For those exploring orthodontic options, we are offering a Free Smile Assessment to help you get started. During this 20-minute consultation, our dentist will assess your teeth, gums, and bite, guide you through the best options, and answer any questions you may have.”
